Is it free to submit?

YES, however we are looking for sponsorship, and businesses will have to be creative in their submission OR sign on to be a sponsor.  Contact us for details. 

When is the deadline?

We will be accepting items from all of 2008.  The cut off at this point will be in January 2009.  However we need you to send in items throughout the year and not just at the end.  We need to make sure this project is producing enough material to progress.

Do you want digital pictures?

NO.  All submissions need to be sent via mail using our PO Box.  Submissions will not be returned, please do not send us you need back.  We cannot return any submissions.

What can be submitted?

The items you send for the project must be able to be put into a book about the size of a scrapbook. 

Can I be a sponsor of this project?

Yes, we will be accepting sponsorship.  Details will be out in early 2008.

Do I have to send only pictures?

No, we are accepting many mediums.  Keep in mind that the actual item you send will be put into the book.  Send in drawing, writings, photos, just be creative.  Contact us if you are unsure of your item.

What will not be accepted?

Any items that are not suitable for all ages, anything that is discriminating or offense.

Can a business submit?

Yes, however we are expecting creative submissions.  If you would like to submit a business card or ad, we need you to consider being a sponsor.  Contact us for details and pricing.  We will be keeping the cost of sponsorship low to enable everyone to participate.

Will you be altering my submissions?

We have no intention of altering items.  If you item needs an adjustment due to size or part of it is suitable for the book, we will contact you to discuss the changes that are needed.

Am I guaranteed my item will be used?

No, however we are making every attempt to include all suitable items. Items that are unsuitable will not be used.  Please see Terms of Project for details on what is being accepted.  We will be contacting everyone who submits.  Please make sure your contact information is correct, or your submission will have to be discarded. 

Do I have to fill out the release form?

Yes, we need this from everyone and we need to be able to contact you for your submission to be used.

Can I submit anonymously?

You cannot be anonymous to Save Staten Island (SSI) or the Very Nice People Society (VNPs); however there is a spot on the release form that lets you decide how to be listed in the book itself.

Can I just send a digital?

Again, no, we will not be printing items for the yearbook.  We need you to send the item ready to be placed into the book.

Can I send an entire page already organized for the book?

Please contact us before doing this.  We may be able to accept this, but we need to hear details.  You can however send multiple items with no problem.  Just don’t lay them out for us ahead of time without contacting us for instructions.

Can kids submit?

They can as long as we have a parent on the release form with their contact information.  We will be contacting the parents of all minors.

Do I have to submit?

No, but this is a great opportunity for Islanders, present and past to be a part of a project that will be seen for years to come.  If you cannot submit, consider passing this along to a friend.

What will my money be used for, if I sponsor you?

We will have numerous ways to sponsor this part of the project and the rest including the film.  Ask for details and we will send you information early 2008.

Can I send in a picture of myself?

Yes, we would love that.  How about pictures of new babies and graduates too.  Groups also!  We are expecting pictures from the entire Island!  Tell you friends and neighbors too.

Can it be a picture that has already been published?

This depends on many circumstances.  If you own the rights to lend us the pictures, we can use it, however it is best to contact us with specifics if you want to submit anything that has already been used somewhere else.

Does my item have to be related 2008?

Yes and No!  We want the majority of the items to be connected to 2008; however there is some leeway with this.  If the pictures are recent but no exactly 2008, that is okay.  We also would love to see very old pictures next to a 2008 version.  For example, if you have your 25 wedding anniversary in 2008, send us a current picture and one from 25 years ago.  Contact us if you have an item that you believe is suitable for the book but not fully connected to 2008.

Does the picture have to be taken in Staten Island?

No, the submission needs to be connected to Staten Island.  This can mean a lot of things.  Are you from Staten Island, either currently or originally?  Did an event take place that has a connection?  Contact us with anything you are unsure of?

Can I send in a lot of stuff?

Yes.  Contact us if you plan to do this.

I am from Brooklyn, can I participate?

Well that depends, what are planning on sending us?  Is there a Staten Island connection here?  Contact us if you need some clarification.

Will you reject things I send in?

Only if you send in something unsuitable.  See Term of the Project for details.

Who will be deciding what goes in the book?

The Very Nice People Society (VNPs) and it members will be forming a committee that will make all decision about the book.  We have made many friends throughout the Island in 2007 and will be calling upon them to form the committee.

Will I be notified if my item is used?

We will need to verify all release forms, so yes you will be contacted at some point.  Please keep your information current with us if you are submitting.

Who will be making the actual book?

The Very Nice People Society and a committee of Friends of Save Staten Island.

What will be on the Cover?

This is still in the works.  We will accept suggestions.

How many copies of the book where there be?

There will be one main book, possible in several volumes if this takes off as we hope.  Ideas for creating copies are in the works, but we are not sure if that will be financially possible.

Where will the book be?

We have ideas to have the book hosted at different places in Staten Island. This will be determined after we see the response to the initial request for submissions.

What do you mean by pictures of projects?

If you do any sort of community project or you create an artistic item that is too big for the pages of our book, photograph it. And send us that.  This is your opportunity to put into place some of the ideas you have about Saving Staten Island and having it represented in the yearbook.

I don’t live on Staten Island anymore, can I still submit something?

Yes you can.

I am not artistic or creative, how can I participate?

You can send in a regular photo of yourself, family or organization.  You can also help us pass the word around the Island.  If you really want to help and are stuck for ideas, contact us, we have too many to pull off ourselves.

How can I tell my friends about this?

Feel free to copy information we are supplying for this project and email everyone you have ever met!  Our one request is to include our website with a notation that you copied it from us.

Who can participate in this?

Anyone who has a connection to Staten Island, past or present.

You already interviewed me for the film, can I still participate?

Yes.

Can my group participate?

Yes.  Be reminded that we may need permission for all members in any photos you submit.  Contact us to work out these details if needed.

Why are you doing this?

We are Staten Islanders too and we love this Island.  We are hoping to build up the pride in others and get the word out.  We also wanted to create a unifying creative outlet for all the people we have met in the last year who loved our initial idea.

How can I help without submitting?

Spread the word, post this on your blogs and website and consider being a sponsor.

My son is really artistic; can you tell him about this?

No, but you can.  Send him our link and copy the main information pages.  Maybe he can create something for you to submit.

What happens if I send in the same thing as someone else?

If it is connected to you, it cannot really be the same as someone else’s.  Don’t worry about it.  We will take it all and work out any problems we find through out committee.

How creative can I be?

The sky is the limit.  Just remember we need to fit the actual submission into a scrapbook size book.  Use photographs to capture what you did if needed.

Can several people send in one submission?
Yes, fill out the release accordingly.

What happens to the submissions?

The go directly into the book.  By submitting you are giving us the actual submission to use. 

Where is the yearbook going to be?

We are looking for ideas on how to display this when done.  A public display or Island tour is our hope.

When will this be completed?

Hopefully not to far into 2009 when all the submission from December 2008 are finally entered into the book itself.
